Breakout Buddy

Support

Prerequisites

Installing Breakout Buddy

  1. Sign into the Zoom App Marketplace and search for Breakout Buddy
  2. Ensure you are signed in to the Zoom App Marketplace using the same Zoom account that you are logged into the Zoom desktop client with.
  3. Click the “Add” button
  4. If Zoom apps are enabled, you will be prompted to authorize Breakout Buddy for Zoom
  5. If you get an error message on this page, Zoom apps have not been enabled for your account and you can follow these steps to get them enabled.

Starting Breakout Buddy in your Zoom Meeting

  1. Once you’ve started your Zoom meeting, you will see an icon in Zoom menu bar that says “Apps”. Click on the “Apps” icon and it will launch your Zoom Apps tab. If you don’t see the “Apps” icon, you may not have Zoom Apps enabled on your account (see pre-requisites). Note, Breakout Buddy can only be used from inside of a running meeting.
  2. Click on the Breakout Buddy app to launch it
  1. You will be automatically authenticated using your zoom user id, no extra login steps needed

Activities

Automated breakout activities are the main feature of Breakout Buddy. The Activities tab is the first tab in the bottom navigation bar in the app.

Speed Networking

  1. To start configuring the Speed Networking activity, click the Start button under Speed Networking in the Activities tab
  1.  Set your desired Group Size (number of participants per room), and Round Duration.
  2. Click the Start Breakouts button to start the activity. This will start the activity and the Active Breakout UI will be shown.
  3. Breakout Buddy will automatically move participants between rooms based on your settings.
    • You can click the Announce button to broadcast your voice to all of the breakout rooms.
    • Click the red Close Breakout button (further down the screen and not shown in this image) to end the activity early if you wish. 
    • Click the down arrow next to the blue activity timer to minimize the Active Breakout UI. 

Misc

Viewing Participants

  1. Click the multi-user icon in the top right of the app
  2. A popup will appear listing the meeting participants
  3. COMING SOON: ability to exclude specific participants from activitites

Breakouts

The Breakouts tab will allow you to run a standard (non-automated) breakout session, but with enhanced capabilities such as splitting and merging groups.

History

The History tab will show the different activities that you have run in the current meeting and allow you to quickly start that activity again with the same settings

Removing / Uninstalling

Process

  1. Log in to your Zoom account and navigate to the Zoom App Marketplace.
  2. Click Manage > Added Apps or search for the “Breakout Buddy” app.
  3. Select the “XYZ” app.
  4. Click Remove.

User Data

When the app is uninstalled, we will destroy all user data in our database associated with your account
